Introduction

This was initially a unit under Education & Research Division until 2005. As research activities at JAWI kept increasing, the Research Division was set up as an independent and special division in JAWI on 5 December 2007. 

Its main function is to carry out studies and research on issues related to aqidah and syariah.  It is hoped that its function and the monitoring of various approaches will further strengthen the practice of the teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah in the Muslim community in the Federal Territories. 

This division is divided into 3 main sections:-

1.      Aqidah and Syariah Monitoring Section

2.      Media Censorship Section

3.      Halal Management Section 

Objective

To provide accurate and quality study results for the purposes of planning and implementation of a more efficient Islamic affairs programme FunctionThe Research Division conducts studies and research on issues relating to aqidah and syariah and monitors various approaches.

2.      Preparation of profiles on current issues relating to aqidah and syariah in the Federal Territories

3.      Clarification on aqidah and syariah issues to all levels of society in the Federal Territories

4.      Documentation of JAWI study and research results

5.      Monitoring of the spread of deviant aqidah and syariah teachings and principles

6.      Study and identification of Islam-based publications contradictory to teachings of Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah

7.      Vetting of applications for purposes of issuing letters of recommendation such as Recommendation Letter for Professional Visit Pass for Teaching/Learning Islam for Foreign Nationals, Recommendation Letter for Name Change & Amendment and Letter of Mahram Confirmation

8.      Implementation of halal management programmes such as halal food awareness programmes, slaughter of animals according to Islam and ritual cleansing services

9.      Handling of complaints related to aqidah and syariah issues such as deviant teachings, deviant aqidah and halal food
